Not Sure How Dental Insurance Works?
If you already have medical insurance, you’re probably familiar with how it covers emergency services and serious illnesses. But keep in mind that dental insurance is truly designed to be used regularly, not kept on hand and used only when you have a toothache. This is why most dental insurance plans cover the cost of preventive care and less likely to cover major restorative treatments typically associated with emergencies. With routine checkups and cleanings, you can prevent the majority of dental emergencies and save more money in the long-term.

The Details of Your Coverage
Before you visit, you should always contact your insurance provider or look into the details of your plan online before receiving treatment. This way, you can avoid surprise costs and get the treatments you need. With that said, most dental insurance plans cover the same treatments at similar rates. Consider the points below to give yourself a better idea of typical coverage rates:
-
Preventive care includes checkups and cleanings twice a year and is typically covered at 100%.
-
Minor restorative treatments are usually covered at 70 to 80% and refer to tooth-colored fillings and root canal therapy.
-
Major restorative treatments, including crowns, crowns, bridges and dentures, are typically covered between 50 and 60%.
